Meet Miss Carlton

Thank you for coming to visit my class webpage!  I hope that you not only learn so much more about your child's education but also find some resources to enrich your child's learning outside the classroom as well.

I grew up in the Brookwood community attending Brookwood Elementary School, Five Forks Middle School, and Brookwood High School.

After graduating with honors from high school in 1999, I attended Brenau University's Women's College.  I graduated from Brenau in 2003 with a degree in Mass Communications concentrating in broadcast journalism and legal studies/conflict resolution.

After a frustrating job search, I took a position here at Brookwood working as paraprofessional in kindergarten until something better came along!  Guess what!  I found I loved it, and I began the process of getting certified to teach.

I completed my coursework for my certification through Brenau University's Evening and Weekend College.  I completed my student teaching in fourth grade at Brookwood Elementary.  I have also earned a masters degree in Elementary Reading and Mathematics from Walden University and a specialist degree in Curriculum, Instruction, Management, and Administration at NOVA Southeastern University.

I spent my first four years of teaching in second grade, and last year I taught fourth grade.  I have taught at the Brookwood Cluster Student Writing Institute, the Gwinnett County Student Literacy Institute, participated on the Gwinnett County Science Focus Team, and have been a mentor instructor (teaching other teachers) at the Brookwood Cluster Math Institute for three years.  I am also a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

I believe children deserve to come to school and learn in an environment in which they feel safe, comfortable, and cared about.  I believe that children should learn the skills to successful as lifelong learners.

Meet Miss Carlton's Favorite Dogs

Sadie and Digger are Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier mixes also known as "Morkies".  This sister and brother love to get into trouble!  They love to chew on whatever they can get their paws on.  So far they have chew up three pairs of eyeglasses and two cell phones! They enjoy crunching fortune cookies and licking popsicles. They love to play chase and fight with each other.  While they do spend time together, they have very unique personalities!

A little bit about SadieSadie is a DIVA!  She likes to be the boss.  Sadie's favorite activity is to steal Digger's toys and chew bones and bury them all over the house, but Digger will tell on her.  Sadie's favorite trick is speak.  At the groomer, Sadie will bark if Digger is not with her.  She loves spending time in the basement.  Sadie is afraid of thunderstorms, so she shakes and needs lovies.  Sadie was weaned too early as a puppy, so she will suck on your arm when she is tired or needs comfort. (sounds kind of weird but is really sweet)

A little bit about Digger Digger, also known as Digsy Wigsy, is a sweet boy.  His favorite activity is giving hugs and kisses.  He also shows his love with a bite on the nose.  His best trick is sit, and he can high five on command.  Digger cannot resist a roll of toilet paper.  He loves to tear them apart and leave a toilet paper trail around the house!  Digger is afraid of everything including the vacuum cleaner, car rides, and new visitors.

Miss Carlton's Favorite Websites

When I am not doing school work, these are some of the websites where I spend my free time, I get ideas, or I spend my money :).  They reveal a little bit more about me and my personality!

One of my hobbies is scrapbooking.  This website is the place where I get most of my scrapbook supplies, but I also get a lot of scrapbooking inspiration from this site as well!

I love to shop for books on Amazon! It is so easy to find the titles that I have in mind, but they also give me great recommendations of other new titles I will like too!  I frequently take advantage of their buy 3 get 1 free deals.  Plus, prices are much lower than other retailers!

A Touch of Whimsy Designs

This is a site where I love to get personalized stationary for myself, family, and friends.  I also love how this designer has so many items that focus on school and how to make communication just a little bit easier for teachers and parents!  Plus her designs are too adorable!

Thistlegirl Designs is my favorite clip art site and where I get mostly all of my graphics that you will see on this website.  I found this site through a teaching resource that I frequently visited to get ideas.  They had the cutest clip art, and, after a little searching, I discovered who their designer is.  I have bought several different clip art packages from the site, but I am also a member of the graphics club which allows me free graphics each month!  I can't wait to see what each new theme will be!
