Writing Workshop
Online Activities
As
fourth graders, students will be working to continue to improve their
writing and express their ideas. This will take place through instruction during
Writing
Workshop. Writing Workshop has three parts:
-
Mini-lesson - The first 10 - 15 minutes of
Writing Workshop is the time when I will teach students strategies
for gathering ideas, writing fluency, editing, and revising.
-
Independent practice - Students will practice the
strategies taught in that day's mini-lesson as well as previous
lessons. I also use this time to conference with individual or
small groups of students about their writing projects and facilitate
further learning.
-
Share - The final 5 - 10 minutes of Writing
Workshop is used to allow invited student's who have successfully
used that day's strategy to share their work. Students are
also invited to reflect how they felt that strategy helped or hurt
their writing.
Writer's
Notebook
Students will use the Writer's Notebook daily
during Writing Workshop. The Writer's Notebook
is the place where we allow ideas to grow for writing pieces to be
created later on in Writing Workshop. In their notebook, students
brainstorm topics, play with writing craft, tweak a revision strategy,
or test out a new genre of writing.
Students' Writer's Notebooks will be collected and assessed about every
two weeks using this
rubric.
